Ort

Location: North Island , Suburban

Info: The city of Auckland - renowned for its beautiful harbour and frequently referred to as the “City of Sails” - is New Zealand’s largest city and business district. Glendowie is a peaceful leafy green suburb in Auckland surrounded by beautiful parks and beaches, all within walking distance to the college. Downtown Auckland is just a 20-minute drive from the college along Auckland’s scenic waterfront. Our location provides an excellent environment for academic, sporting and leisure activities. Movie theatres, restaurants/cafés and three major suburban shopping malls are situated within easy reach of the college.
International students often enjoy eating ice cream or fish and chips at the local beaches of Mission Bay, Kohimarama and St Heliers – Summer and Winter!

Specialized Programs: Leadership,  Outdoor Education,  Trips

Info: At Glendowie College we encourage all students to be involved in leadership. This may be through formal leadership positions or by example, participation and actions. We have formal leadership roles in a number of settings that include; prefects, house leadership, sports teams and through student councils and groups. We have a large co-curricular programme that offers many exciting opportunities to develop and implement leadership skills, for example, Duke of Edinburgh.
Outdoor Education classes offer activities like scuba diving, kayaking, hiking and team building. Also available to international students not sitting NZQA exams, is the opportunity to participate in our popular End of Year Programme, further developing and strengthening your leadership skills, while making friends too!

Accommodation: Homestay

Info: The majority of our students live with a host family. During the application process we ask that you to write a letter to your host family and tell them about yourself. This encourages early connections and opportunities for you and your host family from before you arrive in New Zealand. Students are encouraged to discuss any homestay concerns they may, at anytime - we have an open door policy.

Student Services & Orientation & Counseling:

We believe that students who succeed in life are happy with themselves and in their environment. We also believe that students benefit greatly from an all-round education and that our students should be busy, happy, successful, and resilient, this is supported by our whole school Well Being Programme. Our outstanding Pastoral Care Programme supports all aspects of our students’ school life. This includes an on-going orientation and buddy programme that ensures students are well looked after during the initial settling in period, liaison with homestays to make sure that students are settled and happy, and regular interviews with students. In addition, students are mentored to support their academic progress. We also have three wonderful counsellors, a school nurse and physio.
