Location: North Island , City,  Suburban

Info: Waitakere College high school is at the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges native rainforest, close to rugged West Coast surfing beaches and semi-rural areas. However, we are also located in one of the major suburbs of Auckland, which is New Zealand's largest and very multi-cultural city, with thriving sports facilities, hobby clubs, shopping, entertainment, dining, museums, galleries, and events. The train station is 5 minutes walk from our school, and there are buses and easy road access all over the city. If you prefer calmer beaches, the train and bus will take you there, including to our spectacular Waitemata Harbour full of islands (such as the non-active volcano Rangitoto island, which you can walk up for great views). Adventure activities and outdoors exploring are at our doorstep!

Specialized Programs: Leadership,  Outdoor Education,  Trips,  other

Info: Outdoor Ed programs can be designed for each student according to ability and interest. Leadership opportunities and student groups include: Peer sexuality support, Environmental sustainability, Peer Mentors, Prefects, Duke of Edinburgh Award (including weekend hiking), Librarian, Tuckshop, Orchestra, Jazz band, Pasifika Choir, Chess, Organic Gardening, Computer programming, Art, Dance. Additionally, various subjects and year levels have Camps and trips throughout the year. The senior school ball (mid year) is a highlight, as is the school musical production (normally Term 1 and 2). Students are often involved in community projects also.

Accommodation: Homestay

Info: We work with a variety of professional, police-checked homestay providers, to ensure the widest range of quality families are available, in close proximity to our school. We are a signatory to the NZ Government's Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
