School Districts Welcome:
The Pembina Trails School Division is proud to be a partner with EC.SE in Germany. We have been recruiting students from Germany for more than 20 years and we have been working with Mr. Eickel and his staff since 2003. We have hosted many students from Germany over the years, and each one of them has quickly adapted to life in Winnipeg. Students from Germany and abroad find themselves quickly at home in our schools and have been eager to participate in such activities as hockey, rugby, American football, skiing, band, drama/theater and dance - just to name a few. We look forward to hosting you and are anxious to assist you in securing Winnipeg as your study abroad destination.

Winnipeg has the advantages of a larger city with the increased safety factor and lower cost of living of a smaller city.
We enjoy and celebrate all four seasons in Winnipeg with an emphasis on a true winter experience.
Less than 2% of our student population are international students meaning the international students enjoy a true immersion experience with Canadian students in an English learning environment.
All of our schools have the common facilities that you find in most public schools across Canada and around the world. We invite you to visit each of our schools websites for a virtual tour of their facilities.
Many of the common sports found in schools across Canada and worldwide are offered at our high schools. These include hockey, basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby, badminton, curling cross country running, track and field, and golf - just to name a few. Our schools are home to many city and provincial championships over the years.

Info: Pembina Trails School Division is located in the southwest part of the City of Winnipeg - the 'Heart' of Canada. Our 34 schools and surrounding communities (and homestays) are situated in a large residential area of Winnipeg. The University of Manitoba (the oldest university in western Canada) is located in our school division, creating a very academic environment. Major shopping malls and entertainment venues are nearby, and our newest outlet mall is located in Pembina Trails across the street from IKEA. Students generally live within 10 kilometers (or less) of downtown Winnipeg and within 20 kilometers (or less) of our international airport.
Number of courses / system: Semestered
Info: Our high schools offer hundreds of course options (both compulsory and optional) from a wide variety of fields of study. All four of our high schools are on the semester system. Semester 1 is from September to January and Semester 2 is from February to June. Students generally take 4 or 5 courses each semester. In Manitoba, High School includes grades 9, 10 , 11 and 12.
Accomodation: Homestay
Info: The Pembina Trails School Division is pleased to offer our international students the services provided by a very well-established Homestay Program. We do not contract out. Homstay Program staff are employees of Pembina Trails. All of our homestay families go through a careful screening process that includes a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Search for each adult living in the home. In addition each family undergoes a home visit by one of our Homestay Program staff members. Students wishing to be placed in our Homestay Program are required to complete a Homestay Placement form. The information provided on the form is used to match the student with their homestay family, therefore it is important that the information provided on the form be accurate.
Student Services & Orientation & Counseling:
All of our high schools have student counseling services and our Student Counselors are well versed and very experienced when it comes to international students. We are very pleased to provide an international student program teacher liaison in each of our four high schools and we encourage our international students to seek them out in their building for any of their needs or questions. We offer a Program Orientation upon arrival of our international students (for both semesters) and each school offers there own customized Orientation each semester.
